Puppies.. Male Dog's Jealous?

My female dog just had puppies 2 days ago, and my male Chi tired to attack her once, and is now very down and shedding a lot of fur, he seems pretty upset Ive tired playing with him and showing him a lot of attention, but he's still upset. Normally he is a very very hyper, happy Chi. He has not been near the pups either idk if that has anything to do with it either, but since he tired to attack the female dog we thought it would be safer to keep him away from the pups. We have the pups and the mom in a box and the Chi is in a dog cage sometimes during the day when no ones home, and they are near each other. Idk what else to do I dont want my dog uphappy like this for 8 more weeks..
