What do Thai people believe was the reason for the increased police presence during the general election?

During last weekend's general election in Thailand, alcohol sales were banned throughout the country and extra police were brought into Bangkok. What are peoples' opinions as to why extra police were brought in. I am particularly interested in the opinion of Thai people. But of course, anyone's opinion is welcome.
