Can you help me with PS2 game?

I just got a brand new copy of NBA2K11 for my ps2..its completely new came in shrink wrap etc..ok..so i put it in the game system..it shows PS2 logo and I wait in excitement for it to load.....NOTHING happens..i turn tv off gives it 2 more mins..NOTHING happens..I waited a whole day to fulfill my anticipation of this game but it isnt even working and I dunno why. Can you help me with this? I cant understand why I brand new game would not work.
